It's Almost Thanksgiving!!
Over the river and thru the wood,
To grandfather's house we go;
The horse knows the way to carry the sleigh,
Thru the white and drifted snow, oh!
Over the river and thru the wood,
Oh, how the wind does blow!
It stings the toes and bites the nose,
As over the ground we go.
Over the river and thru the wood,
To have a first-rate play;
Oh, hear the bell ring,
"Ting-a-ling-ling!"
Hurrah for Thanksgiving Day-ay!
Over the river and thru the wood,
Trot fast my dapple gray!
Spring over the ground,
Like a hunting hound!
For this is Thanksgiving Day.
Over the river and through the wood,
And straight through the barnyard gate.
We seem to go extremely slow
It is so hard to wait!
Over the river and through the wood --
Now Grandmother's cap I spy!
Hurrah for fun!
Is the pudding done?
Hurrah for the pumpkin pie!
A practically perfect holiday is practically upon us. All the family and food and football,,and no presents required. Cool weather,,cool enough for the fireplace! Mallory home in her bed where she belongs and no jerk off profs can get to her. Maggie crashed in a small ball on the couch,,a tangle of curls and furry blanket and kittens. Beast huddled at my feet. Hot pumpkin spice coffee in my Thanksgiving mug. Life is just good. Today is cooking day. Two pies, homemade rolls, turkey cut out cookies, puppy chow, stuffing. I get to play domestic Mom today. Wheee fun. My one day off this week,,that's right,,the only day I have off until Monday,,and I'm going to spend it cooking and cleaning and doing laundry and working in the yard. I asked for this,,right? I did and I'll happily do all of the chores. It's Thanksgiving! Given the nature of the holiday I tend to look back over the year and remind myself of the things I'm truly appreciative of this time of year. There is the "usual" list. My girls. My family. Our collective health. My friends. This year brought some new additions to the list. No hurricanes in Austin. A new surrogate daughter,,Elke. A fabulous dancing partner,,Fred. House FULL of cats. Brilliant legal fiends. A glorious house. Peace of mind. A smishy soft bed that waits for me every night. Life is full,,life is good. Now if the 'Horns can just beat the Aggies and head on to Houston and then Pasadena,,,well life would be close to perfect ya know?
