New Years Eve
Wow. Another year gone. History. Tomorrow we ring in 2007. Where the heck did the years go? There must be a way to slow this thing called life down. Looking back,,2006 was ok. Some good things,,some incredible things,,,some really nasty horrid things. Overall,,,ok. We survived. We learned. We moved on.
Christmas came and went. A foggy shelf in the memory palace. Work managed to steal most of my Christmas cheer and cloud the remainder with sleep deprivation. Just trying to make it through the holidays. Survival. Smile. Act nice. I've always believed that if you aren't part of the solution,,you are part of the problem. They won't let me be part of the solution,,,I refuse to be part of the problem. Smile. Act nice. Get through the holidays. Move on. I have a pulse, a license and a kick-ass resume. I can work wherever I choose. I think it's time to choose a new place. Enough said.
The girls are in Houston for the weekend,,,return tonite to see the new year in. Robert will be here. His daughter flies out this afternoon. I'll have a wistful man to contend with. Yippee.
Finished Hannibal Rising. I love Thomas Harris. Such an elegant writer. Beautiful characters. Horrific yes,,but beautiful.
Started The Devil in the Junior League. Amazing book. So very much my life before Austin. Fun to read,,don't want to go back. Yegods,,,can you picture me in a cashmere twin set with pearls drinking ice tea on the veranda with the girls? Doing the toe dance? Big hair? Thinking it all mattered? Yegods.
Laughing now,,considering what I just wrote and realizing that at the same time I was writing it I was making a mental note to myself to schedule hair and nail appointments for myself and the girls. Wearing cashmere,,and pearls. Some things just don't change.
Now,,the meat of the matter. New Year,,New Revolutions. Being Martha,,I do not make "resolutions". I make REVOLUTIONS. So much more fun.
I think this year will be one of change. Definetly time to plot and plan. I do not make Revolutions lightly. I'll keep you posted. In the meantime,,,a toast,,,to a year survived.
May the fledgling year bring us all peace, happiness and prosperity. May you always have really good chocolate within your reach, a splendid glass of wine near by and a delicious someone to share it all with.
Much love,
me
